DANCE LIKE NOBODY'S WATCHING

I've started making a series of videos with this title. I've always loved the expression 'Dance Like Nobody's Watching' because it encourages us to let go of inhibitions and feel the pure joy when we dance with freedom.

Recently, I've been putting on some music and letting my body just move and respond with next to no planning or thought. I used to do it a lot when I was younger, but life got busy and I stopped making time for it. Then coronavirus lockdown happened and I felt compelled to just let loose again. It was great to have the time and it really helped having a channel through which I could express myself during such a difficult and emotionally challenging time. I've read it's great for the brain too - dancing freestyle helps people think more laterally when it comes to problem solving. I needed to do a lot of that, having to adapt to the changing times.

The dancing in these videos is more personal and emotive, so quite a departure from what I teach. Like other forms of performing, dancing is like acting and the songs I've chosen aren't necessarily a reflection of what I'm feeling, but merely songs I like. That could be because of some key words in the track, the raw emotion coming from the singer's voice or the intricacies in the music. The great thing about this kind of dancing, whether it's sad or happy, it always makes me feel better afterwards. It's a great way of releasing energy and emotions.

I hope you enjoy watching! Hopefully it might even inspire you to dance at home and let loose. It doesn't matter how old you are or how good you are at dancing. It's about the freedom of movement and expression!

Please 'LIKE' the video if you enjoy watching. It's always lovely to know if it resonates with people!
